Birds singing, dirt under my fingernails, children giggling on the trampoline...there is no other place I would rather be, but here in my garden. One by one I pull weeds with great satisfaction. As I fill the bucket, my mind trails off.

Garden spade in hand, sword of the Spirit at work, examining...Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting Ps 139:23-24.

I will allow you to consider the implications of the following list of observations I made. Ponder with me how weeds compare with sin.
They're ugly.
They're hard to get rid of.
They flourish in poor, uncultivated soil.
They detract from the beauty of the flowers.
The more they are watered, the more they grow.
The tops are easy to pull off, but the roots often times grow deep and are difficult to remove.
They often grow with other weeds.
If you don't tend to them quickly they can get away from you.
A healthy stand of grass chokes out the weeds.
You must have the right tools to get rid of them.
They propogate easily.
They are often prickly and hurt when you come in contact with them.
They are fast growing.
