mapping my heart

To know what you prefer instead of humbly saying Amen to what the world tells you you ought to prefer, is to keep your soul alive. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Ok, so I didn't stay away until Wednesday, but Melody is back! You remember her--the one who is helping me rediscover my creative soul which was formerly covered over with piles of laundry, dirty dishes, and the cares of this world. Her first project for the year follows...

Knowing what you truly love is the key to loving how you live. A simple way to begin to know what you truly love is to gather beautiful images that speak to your soul. So, let's do just that.Gather scissors, glue, your favorite magazines and your art journal. Place them all together in a basket or other container and keep it by your bed.

Now listen to me because this part is very important. Do not over think your choices. You do not need to have a reason why an image speaks to you...it simply must speak to you. Also, do not plan or fret over the arrangement of the images on the page, just paste them on a page one at a time. Let your collages happen, evolve.

I expect that you will find colors, patterns, themes, styles, things...something...which reveals loves, hopes, passions you've never realized. Your collages will give you directions where your heart wants to go...a map of your heart.

I have had a sticky Post It board by my computer with misc items on it. I've been wanting to redo it for inspiration so this was the perfect opportunity. I took down the business cards and left the family photo in center. I went through my Pottery Barn, CB2 catalog, and Garnet Hill mag cutting out the the items that spoke to me...flowers, a Jane Austen quote: "There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort," birds, books, pillows, dishes, plates, and comfortable clothes...all of which hearken to home, family, comfort, and refuge. One of my favorite cards is bottom right--a lion with lamb...SHALOM...let the peace of God rule in your hearts" (Col. 3:15) This is my main aim, that all the roads on the map of my heart would be filled with His peace.

Beautiful, Angie! Thank you for sharing!! I love collage. I may take a gander at wrapped emotions myself. I am less and less inclined to keep up with blogging in this season. Will have to see what happens. I wish you lived in my neck of the woods, I'd love to just hang with you . . .

Lovely! I really like your approach to this. Mine just had magazine photos, others had just personal photos and you have both. I really like that you were able to find pictures that had true meaning where your faith is concerned. Bravo!!

Your board does look warm and comfy! I almost put on a photo of some pillows but ran out of room! And, I think it's great you put it on a corkboard, so that you can look at it and put a smile on your face and bring you comfort daily!

Very beautiful Angie! I didn't get organized enough to do the WE project, this time, but will hopefully catch the next one.

I notice the warmth of subject matter, but also in your choice of earthy, natural colors...just like I imagine you...real, natural, true, beautiful.

LOVE that your daughter jumped in.
